Tips for watering plants in containers

Post 21 August 2015

Water in the Evening

According to specialists, plants are more receptive to watering in the morning and the evening, when temperatures are cooler and direct sun do not cook off the moisture before it can seep down to the roots.

Never water routinely every so many days. Water when a plant needs it. Learn about your plant’s need for water and then adjust watering accordingly.

It is best on most plants to water deeply and slowly so water can access all parts of the soil and roots.

Focus on the root zone. Remember that it’s the roots that need access to water, not the leaves. Wetting the foliage is a waste of water and can promote the spread of disease.
